Not being big or .husky I decided to accede to the-request the, day; before our arrival there. I telephoned to the booking'office,, and bade the proprietor make, the necessary, arrangements. Told him to- ohango tlie.advertisements in. the paper, in explaining which mentioned the'phrase: 'It's a Snipper! , He misunderstood—couldn't, catch' ;the' word through the 'phone. : Thought it .was' 'supper,' 'snorter,'' 'slipper',' etc. When I arrived-in Reefton, found a bold sign; on his' shop-window—:'lt's a'.smitter!' Then : a 'dodger. said; ;i 'It's a smiterl , : The editor of the local paper declined to use the word''smittor'—said ho.had never heard the word r .and' settled all arguments by cutting out one't.' But the grand finale was when the local paper announced the farce as a senr sational drama." - . , -.' .■•'■'■ ■ ■ ' The same paper, in a City Council advertisement inserted over "The Girl from Rector's" noticej says:— ■■•. ..
