POSTAL MATTERS.
Sir,—lt is the boast of a'few postal officials that their/own particular, representation of the service excels any/in the lViorld. I have no.desire to reflect on such-a- valuable and" honourable Department of public service, especially when they are barred from replying, but your own exposition of the liability of the JPcst Office in regard to /registered letters (lor .which. I''.'have'■',-to. thank- you) indicates that ,at..leas'£,.,tho/;general public might be told,:ii/.little, more, than they are in matters/'.beyond /the mere delivery of a letter.v,. ' : // : .. '.' "■ .'.'.. ' Regarding-pjircels.-why. should'l havo to call, for one- weighing about. 21b ?; , I have never had ''to-do so'in.■ any-coirntry but this, and I fail to see /the advantage of sending by post unless in isolated cases. In the Old Country, a .parcel weighing up to Hlb. is'delivered right to my door, and I can obtain on. a'properly .registered letter or parcel compensation-■ upvto \£4OU. Your previous reply on this latter subject was an astonishing eye-opener to. a. good, many. Perhaps you can let us "know-'what, sort of parcels the Post''Office take in hand to deliver.;—l.! am,- etc., •'■ •'.:. .■,-'.'.:. ~-;; 7-E.L.H. - [In reply/to the above query, we are advised by-tho Post Office authorities, that nt offices where; there ,are contractors for the delivery, of parcels, the - practice is that small parcels up to/two. pounds; in weight are . delivered v by/ letter-carriers, and parcels exceeding that weight-by the contractors: At offices.where.special contractor's are, not. employed the'practice is to deliver'small parcels by.'letter'-carriers, and to require the public-to /call at the post office for., lai'ge parcels.] .• ; :■ •
