HURT AT THE WHARF. While handling corrugated iron alon» side the steamer Turakina at. Queens Wharf yesterday afternoon, a man named Wm. Thomas, residing at Myrtle Crescent, received a cut on the head. Dr. Henry, who attended the injured man, found it necessary to put several stitches in the wound, and Thomas was then despatched to his home..

| ' A TOOTG MAN'S SAD DEATH. Timaru, August 30. At tho inquest on the body of the man killed on tho railway near Pleasant Point by decapitation, there was no evidence of identification. The inquest was adjourned. • Later. The body of the young man, decapitated by the train at Pleasant Point on ■Monday, was identified to-day as that of Bernard Jones, a pupil teacher in Timaru, who was spending the holklays on a farm near the scene of the tragedy.- Jones hart been suffering from influenza. He was eighteen years of age, a bright youth, who won four "special mantions" m lfiie teachers' examination.
