VESTMENTS IN THE ANGLICAN CHURCH.

(By Telegraph.—Press AssociationJ ' Christohurch,' August 30; A deputation of members of' St. Michael's. Church waited on Bishop Julius on matters relating to the new vicar of St. Michael's, the Rev, H. Darwin Burton. The conference was of a private nature, but it is understood that the principal matter discussed was in reference to Mr. Burton's intention to wear tho I Eiicharistic vestments. Amongst soino the signification of these vestments was not understood, and tho conference was sought in order to have some misconceptions cleared up. • Tho feeling of the vestry was reported to be a very friendly ono towards Mr. Burton, and a general desiro is to givo him a very hearty welcome oh his arrival in a day or two.

The "Layman," an Anglican paper published at Christchurch, in its last issue stated: "We understand that the new vicar of St. Michael's will be arriving towards tho end of Aygust, and that he is bringing a brother priest with him. Tho Sydney papers tell us that Mr. Burton was offered the/Bishopric of Rhodesia a year or two ago, but found himself unable to accept it. The St. Michael's people are indeed to be congratulated. Their old wear has gone .to.be a. bishop, their new ono might haye been one and refused. We hope that "they will give their two English pries+s no half-hearted welcome." The ' Layman", heartily approves of tho use o! vestments.
