" The trustees of the Felton Bequest have purchased a large painting by watteau for .£3125, for tho Victorian National. Gallery., Mr. Alfred Felton, a Melbourne merchant, left two public bequests on his dcp.th in 1904, each of about .£BOOO _ per annum. One was to certain charities, and the other to the National Gallery of Victoria. In 1907 the trustees made their most expensive purchase, so far, -that of Corot s "Bent Tree," for .£SOOO odd.
