Sir Charles Bowen, M.L.C., and the Hon.. J. JBarr, M.L.C., are among the passengers from the south by the Maori this morning. Tho Hon. D.; Buddo, Minister for Internal Affairs, expects to' leave for Palmerston' North this morning- to-open the new fire', brigade station there. Mr. R. T. Kearney,-who has been assistant secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in this city for the last six months, was entertained last night at tea by the boarders and some members of the association. The general secretary (Mr. H. N. Holmes) presided, and Mr. Kearney's health was. proposed by Mr. J. V. Port. Mr. Kearney leaves for Sydney next Friday.. Mr. E. D. H. Stocker, of the Supreme Court staff, has been appointed Deputy Registrar, Deputy Sheriff, and Clerk of Awards at Wellington. Mr. G., S. Clark has also been appointed Deputy Registrar at Wellington. Mr. R. M. Goldsman is transferred; to the Supreme Court staff at Auckland, and Mr. 6. G; Bell, of Christchurch, is transferred to tho Wellington office. . Yesterday afternoon at the office of the Secretary for Marine a pleasant little function took place; when- Mr. D. Scntt, .lighthouse expert, was presented 011 the occasion of his retirement from the serviijo by the officers of the Marine Department with a' silver entree dish and silver cake stand. Mr. .Allport, Secretary for Marine, in making, the presentation, made complimentary reference to Mr. Scott's .long term of service, he having joined the Public' Service in 1871. Mr. Scott had been connected with the Marina Department since 1880. Dr.' Mason, late Chief Health Officer to ' the New Zealand Government;. .is about to commence the. practice of his profession in Wellington. He has secured rooms in . the Institute of Marine .Engineers' Building, Aitken Street. Tho Rev. Geo. Walters, of the Sydney Unitarian Church, arrived in Auckland, by the Jlaheno on Sunday, and wilt remain as tho-guest of the Auckland Unitarian Church until the- end of Sep"tember.. Mr. Walters is well known as an eminent preacher and lecturer, and has come over on tho invitation of the Auckland Church to assist in carrying on the work,' pending the arrival of the Rev.' Wm. Jellie's successor from . England. Mr. Walters has occupied the Unitarian pulpit in Sydney for upwards of 21 years, and was present and took part in the opening ceremonies. of the Auckland Church some ten years , ago. ■ At a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday 'afternoon the resignation (owing to failing health) of Mr. J. M. Brigham, who has been secretary and treasurer of the board for thirty-eight years, was received and accepted. Mr. Brigham intends visiting England shortly. —Press Association; Madame Calve and the members of her coucert company will be present at the initial production of "Aladdin" on Friday night. '
