WINDING UP A GOOD SJSAUON. From tho first inception of hunting in the Horowhonua district interest in the 3port has' quickly and surely increased; and it riuist bu very gratifying to thoso who have spared neither pains nor e.\penso in working for the advancement of tho. sport to know that their efforts have mot with such success. • This year's hunting season closed with the "meet" at Otaki on Aiumst C, and it is proposed to finish up with ar. afternoon's fun, equally interesting to huntsmen and tho public, in tho form of a point-to-point • ytceplcchaso 'mooting. With tliis object in view ■ a meeting of members was held at Mana- : kau on .Friday, evening, last, August'2C. ■There was a largo attendance, principally from Otaki and Maiinknu, Levin being represented by the secretary. Proceed- !. ings throughout 'were enthusiastic, and it ; was arranged, to hold tho meeting': on . Wednesday afternoon, September .21, on Mr. J. It, M'Donald's property,'' Kiiku ltoad, Manakmi. Trophies were presented by Messrs'. T, Bcvnn, jmi., Pγ liiiniell, S. J. Boattie, W.JCirkley, W. M. Simcox, TomO'Kourke, A. Drake, J. G. Jamieson, A. Strawbridge, , and T. Taylor, ..Theso ( . ".vill be compotod for in two steeplechases, , one of three miles for heavy-weights, and one of two miles for light-weights; There will also be a members' flat race,-hones ■ to bo nominated by ladies, and a (armors' i race of 1J milee, for "lcgitimnto farm horses, to l>o Iriddon by fanners or their . sons. .Horses..computing in the hunters' I events are to be the properly of financial i members of tho Manawutu .Hunt Club, and to be ridden by financial members. -Arrangements will bo made for tho sup--1 ply of afternoon tea on tho ([round at a nominal charge, and given fine weather thero should be a large attendance of the , public. No charge -will- be mn,de for nd- ; mission to the grounds. ■
