PAINTERS' AWARD ISSUED.
■■ .■.■ _—; 4 The Arbitration 'Court has .issued its award in the dispute between the Wellington Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators and some thirty employers in the city and suburban district. The award briefly ' embodies the'agreement, arrived at between the parties with the addition of Clause; 11, inserted by agreement, which provides that "no employer shall sublet work or give piecework to any worker, and no journeyman working for an employer' shall accept piece-work or contract,work. The president (Mr. Justice Sim). considers that this clause certainly cannot be enforced in its entirety. The award fixes a minimum rate of. wages for journeymen at Is. 3d. per hour. The usual provisions, arc made in.regardto overtime, apprentices, country work, and preference. It takes forco for three years from August 25/ and applies to' l all employers carrying on business within a radius of twenty-five miles.from tho General Post Office, Wellington. ... ■ . • •- . ''
