After considerablo searching tbe Customs officials found in the engine storeroom a raised portion of the deck, which aroused their suspicions. After they had shifted about half .a ton of iron and lumber they found a quantity of drapery and curtains. The penalty for the offence was £lb, and Jlr. Nixon asked their Worships not to show lomenM as the place was, evidently a cache for uncustomed goods. _ Asked if he had anything to say, laylor stated that he had taken tho chance and was willing to pay the penalty. A- fine- of was imposed, but was reduced to £3 15s. as accused had not previously been before tho Court. Costs amounting to 7s. was added to the nne, and the .default was seven days. : REMANDED FOR SENTENCE.- . • Winnie Kiffin Thomas, who on Thursday last pleaded guilty, to stealing three rings and a brooch, the property of Mabel Taylor, and who was remanded for sentence until yesterday, was further remanded until this morning. Chief detective Brbberg stated the woman would, be glad to' go to the Salvation Army Homowhile waiting sentence, and their Wor-ships-offered no objection. Mr. V.
