SUPREME COURT SESSIONS.

- HEAVY-CRIMINAL LIST. (By Telograph.-Press Association.) Auckland, August 27. At the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) declared four men to be habitual criminals,'and im- | posed sentences on them as follow:—F. J. Symons, theft and receiving stolen property, four years; William John Parker, theft and breaking and entering (two charges), six and eighteen months respectively; William Scarboro, breaking and entering, twelve months on each of two charges;-Richard Hncket, false pretences, two years, in addition to a:present sentence. Other prisoners sentenced were: —William Patrick. Brophy, theft of money, two years' imprisonment; Thomas Goulton, breaking- and entering and' theft, eighteen months; ' John Munro Wrack, criminal assault at' Wh'ahgarei, fifteen'. months' imprisonment at Invercargill, the' Judge considering . the man really wanted hospital treatment. John Herman Collins 1 received a sentence of nine months .for criminal assault on a child. Thomas Finnigan, convicted of breaking and entering and, theft, received a sentence of six months with hard labour. John James-Ross,'„up on two charges of theft,' was -reminded by' the Judge that he was liable,to bedeolared an .habitual criminal. -A sentence, of twelve months was' imposed.' k young • man-of good address,.'George,M. Foster, formerly manager of an .insurance company, in Auckland, pleaded not guilty to an indictment, charging him with tho embezzlement of ,£45 in two' separate- sums of .£22 10s. each, between July i and 7 of this year. Accused pleaded that he had used the money in order to extend the business for . which he was - canvassing. He was found guilty, and admitted a further charge' of obtaining £3 by false pretences at Taumarunui. Sentence was deferred. . '.', ■■
