FIRES.

PALMERSTON OUTBREAK. (From Our Special Correspondent.)' Palmorston, August 26. At half-past ten last night the Tiro Brigade was summoned to an outbreak in a block of buildings in Main Street, towards the railway station, comprising three shops, occupied respectively by a grocer, a photographer, and tho Singer sowing machine agent. The conflagration started in the grocer's shop, occupied by R. W. Curtis, which was com.pletely gutted, and most of the stock destroyed. Though tho fire had obtained a strong hold on the premises, the brigade quickly subdued it, and confined it to one shop. Tho stock in the photographic shop of Walter JFlatt, and also of the Singer Machine Company, on the opposite side, was a good deal damaged by smoke and water. Tho three shops belonging to Mrs. Coombes were insured in tho Now Zealand office for £550. Curtis's stock was insured in tho Commercial Union for £150, and £25. on tho fittings. There was an,insurance of £1000 on the photographic stock, but the Singer Sewing Machine Company had no insurance at all. AT THE MOLYNEUX COAL MINE.
