THE VACANT SEATS. A deputation of forty citizens which' waited yesterday upon Mr. W. G. Thompson, hoad of the firm of ,Messrs. Thompson 'Bros., asked him to consent to nomination for a scat ou tho City Council. The Hon. ,C. M. Luke mentioned Mr. Thompson's, previous connection with several public bodies as shmying his qualification for tho office of city Other speakers who supported the request were Messrs. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., AV. A: Fhvcll, H. Mainland, T. Ballinger, J. R. Tripe, F. Townsend, and W. Pryor. Mr. Thompson said his personal feelings would load him to decline, but ho re-' cognised thai citizens owed a duty to tho city, and on tho clear understanding that those present would, actively assist his oandidal'uro he placed himself in their hands. Mr. V. Jensen has consented .to become a candidate for one of the vacancies. . _ ■..•.. A probable candidate is Mr. Goorgo Nathan, son' of Mr. Walter Nathan;
