"The Russo-Japanese War" was the subject of an interesting, lecture'given-to the Manawatu Officers' Club here last night by .Captain Dnigan, of Wellington.There was a large attendance. LieutCol. Pringle occupied the 61iair, and introduced the lecturer.. The'addrcss.was illustrated with, a .number of lantern slides, which helped greatly to-make,the positions clear. The lecturer dealt more •particularly with the fortifications at Port Arthur,' Mukden-and Laio lang, after which he also gave a short address, on the battle of Kernstown, in Jacksons. Valley campaign, in the American Civil War, which likewise, was most lnterestiu". Captain Duigau was accorded a ■hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion, of his lecture.' -/ - ' > , ' , The annual meeting of, the Manawatu Employers'; Association held last night; when there "was a good attendance, the president (Mr. A. E: Bennett) occupying tho chair. The report and balancesheet showed the association to.be making goad. The membership now totals nearly three hundred, sixty new members having been elected during the year. The balance-sheet stated that there was a credit balanco of .£55 65., notwithstanding that considerable extra expenditure had been incurred during theyear. The assets total' liabilities nil. Ihe following officers were elected for. the ensuing year:—President,- Mr. J;. Aitchison; vice-president, Mr. E. L. Broad;, (treasurer, Mr. M. J. Kennedy; executive, Messrs. K, S.
