HER EXCELLENCY.

• LADY ISLINGTON ARRIVES. A PRETTY RECEPTION. Late winter stolo a day from spring specially for the coining of Lady Islington, who, accompanied by her daughter, the Hon. Joan Dic'csoii-Poynder, and quite a retinue of servants, arrived from London by the Tiirakina yesterday, morning. The sky was azure, and the lively breeze which kept the bunting lluttering at full length, was exhilarating rather than chill. It was a bright day. Tho big liner, looking spick and span after her long tramp across a world of oceans, was berthed .soon after 8 a.m., and promptly at 9 a.m. tho'gaiigway was lowered, and after briefly, inspecting the. guard of honour—a squad of A'ew Zealand Royal Artillery, under Major Hume —his Excellency tho -. Governor went on board, under the. interested gaze of a large crowd of tho public, and the imiz!zl«s of half a' hundred cameras. The scene was enhanced by a merry troup of somo' 300 senior girls 'from t ; he State Schools, w.'vo were marshalled into sections by Ceptnin .I.' '{'. Hall, assisted by Lieutenant, Davies.

Wili'ord) and-.Mrs.;.Wiiford: . . On reaching the.deck of the Turakina. Lady Ward presented Lady Islington with a beautiful bouquet of.. flowers, aud extended her a hearty welcome on behalf of the lvomen.of Kow Zealand, expressing ;tho hope that her. stay in' the Dominion would Ire a -happy one. Lady Islington,. in replying, slated that she looked forward with pleasure to her stay in Nrw Zealand. The introductions over, His Excellency, Lady Islington,. and their daught6r, accompaliied by Miss Pauline Cotton- (companion), and Captain G. C Hamilton, of the Grenadier Guards, senior A'.D.C. to His Excellency, came ashore. The guard of honour presented arms as the party slowly passed, and the passengers of the Turakina; .with whom Lady Islingon was most popular, gave ■ three ringing cheers from the deck, above,.. Her Excellency carried a beautiful bouquet, presented to her by the schoolgirls, upon whom, she looked smilingly in recognition. She also asked that they might be,given a holiday, which request was acceded to.

At the call of the Prime Minister, cheers were given for Lady Islington anil the Hon. Joan Dickson-Poynder. The party walked to the ■ wharf, gates, and there took carriage for the new; vice-regal house- at Mount View. ''

Lady Islington was in deep mourning for the late King, as were also the Hon. Joan Dickson-Poyndev, Miss Cotton, and the members of the household • staff who arrived by the ■ Turakina. '
