Tho City Council decided last evening to offer the Government a site for a post office at tho corner of Adelaide Eoad and Drummond Street, at a value to be determined by tlio city valuer.
The By-laws, Fire Brigade, and Lighting Committee reported to tho City Council last evening that they had appointed Councillor Trevor as their chairman.Councillor Shirtcliffe moved that clause 8 be referred back to tho committee. He objected to the appointment of n chairman until all tho members of tho committee had been appointed mid notified. This was seconded by Councillor Atkinson, but was defeated on a division, and tho clause wai) adopted.
The Lands Department has accepted tenders for two contracts in connection with tho construction of part of tho Fuhanga Canal, in tho Hauniki Plains Settlement. For contracts Nos. 1 and 2 the tenders of Messrs. Onion and Duffy at .£1505 Ms.; 3d. and £1300 14s. Id. respectively, have been accepted. MOTOR, CARS. Tho Scott.
