THE TRAMWAYS BILL.
OBJECTION TO BOARDS. Tho following is a copy' of a letter which has been forwarded to tho Primp Minister by Mr. W. Pryor, secretary of tho New Zealand Employers' Federation, regarding the Tramways Amend-' ment Bill, 1910:— "I am directed by niy Parliamentary committee to convey to you tho strong objection of tho. New Zealand Employers' Federation ..to Section 6. of the Tramways Bill. The 'principle of compelling employers to givo tho right uf appeal in dismissals, disratings, lines, or other punishments would, if generally applied,, be subversive of dis-.1 oipliue ; 'tend to take the real control of business out of the hands of employers, and. would lead to constant fruition, aa well as being open to abuso. I have to point out that;tho Government itself realises tho difficulties which niay arise in thin connection, as in connection with tho Railways Appeal Board the right of. veto is secured to the Minister, and has on more than ono occasion boon exercised by him. My coiniriitteo fears that 'if the clause referred to becomes law it will be the, thin end of tho wedge to compel employers of labour to give reasons in every case when.it is necessary to discharge employees. It is therefore urged by my federation _ that Government sji'ould tako steps 'to delete tho clause from tie Bill."
