As stated in The Dominion some time ago, British gumdiggers arc not satisfied with tho- manner in which the language test is applied to- Austrian immigrants, most of whom go 'on tho giimfields. With a view to making tho tost less perfunctory, Mr. Stallworthy, M.P. (Kaipara), has given notice to ask the Minister for Immigration toprovido that, instead of writing out and signing an application in the form of tho schedule in any European language, tiio alien should be required to write out a. sentence of not less than sixty words, to. ho dictated by the Immigration Of. ficcr, or some other words providing a teal test.
