A fair wind springing up, it was decided to lift "the hook" and make for Wellington, which was reached as seated above after a good run across the Straits. • YAWL PANDORA SAILS. - The nine-ton yawl Pandora,'which left Western Australia, for a cruise, round the world, left Sydney 03 August 17, bound for New Zealand, in continuation of her voyage. Her first place of call will bo Auckland. Then she will go to Ktcairn and Easter Islands. From there she will go to Juan Fernandez, some 500 miles off the coast of South 1 America. 'I'hcnshe will make' tlio voyage around. Cape Horn, being the first vessel of this size to under-, take such a perilous cruise. Captain Slocum went through the Magellan Straits. From' Cape Horn a course, will bo steered to Port Stanley,, thence on to' Tristan. d'Acunha.' From there it is hoped to strike the north-east trades. St. Helena, will be visited, and then" New York. The vessel will thence proceed to London, returning by way of the Cape of Good Hope. Her stiffening consists of 5! tons 'of slag and cement. She can do up to 9J knots por hour, and can be so nxed as to steer her own course. Tho atanufca brought 13 ponies from Sydney ■ yesterday consigned to Miv.W. 11. 'Tubman, at Lyttelton. Tho Kahu swung hers yesterday. ~ The Manuka, leaving for the south today takes cargo for Timaru and Oamaru to be transhipped to th 3 Taviuni at Dunodin on August 27. Nov;aday3 the majority of steamers are designed with straight,stems. It is worthy of note, however, that quite recently a big cargo steamer has been launched on' the Wear with a clipper bow, bowsprit, and llguriihead. The vessel in question is-the Cedav Branch, a steamer 412 feet long, which Messrs. Bartram and Sons have constructed for the Nautilus Steam Shipping Company. ■ ' .
