The motion was carried. The chairman also resolved to . send deputations to the lions. T. Mackenzie and R. M'Kenzie, who are visiting Waiiganui on Friday. The former is to be asked to consider the appointment of a dairy produce grader for tho port, of Wanganui, and the latter is to be asked to inspect that portion of tho River Road requiring legalising to connect with the Kauarapaoa Road. ' : Wanganui, August 24. Mr. W. L. Young, who leaves tomorrow on a business trip to tho Old Country, will • he absent about. six months. . Colour-Sergeant J. Carmody, Sergeant A. H. Webb, Privates W. T. Davis, and J. Sparks, of tho Wanganui Guards have been awarded tho Now Zealand Service Medals for twelve years' continuous service, Cadet prize medals have been awarded to Sergeant S. R. Archer, and Private \V. Williams, of the Wanganui Collegiate Rifle Cadets, tho former for being the best cadet shot in tho North Island, the' latter for ■'being-tho best cadet shot in the Wellington, district. Tho business of the local telephone exchange continues to grow steadily, and, to-day, an application was received for tho seventh hundred connection., It is worthy of notice that, not only is tho 700 mark reached, but there is actually that number of subscribers, every gap in tho list being filled up. During tho last twelve months there have been no fewer than 100 new connections made.
