' The weather was mild and genial this morning when the semi-finals of the New Zealand Ladies' Golf Championship were fought out, but a stiff nor'-easter was again blowing. ' ' i The result of the day's play leaves Miss Collins (Wellington) and Miss Wray (Manawatu) to fight out the championship to-morrow afternoon. The following are' tho morning's results :—'■•. Miss Collins (Wellington) heat Miss Ashwell (Tiiuaruj,. bj\ 3 up and 2 to play. Miss Wray (Manawatu) beat Miss Bell (Wellington), by 7 up and 5 to play. - MISS COLLINS v. MISS ASHWELL. At' the start Miss Ashwell drove and hit a willow .'stump, and the ball boomoranged back. Miss Collins got in a good drive.- Miss Ashwell made a good drive with her second shot, hut Miss Collins foozled, hers.. ' Miss Ashwell's next shot was n fair one, but her fourth was bad. 'Miss Collins was just short of the green with her third shot, and with her fourth she got well on the green, and went put in 6to 7. At Wilson's Miss Collins got in a. good drive, Miss Ashwell following with a bad one. She nuido a good recovery, however, whilst Miss Collins, getting into the creek with her second, and aguin with her third, gave, up the hole. At the corner Miss Ashwell got in a good drive, whilst Miss Collins fell short of. the bunker, but made r. good and halved in 4. Both got in • good drives at Briggs's, Miss Ash well's . second being le best. Miss Collins lauded on the green with her second, and won the hole in ito 6. At Lund's End Miss Collins got in'a good drive, .whilst Miss Ashwell went intu l.he' lake; ' Picking' out,. she played a good third. Miss Collins's second shot was very poor, but she recovered in her third, and won the hole in oto 8. At O'Eorke's Drift Miss Collins drove, just over the green,, mid Miss Ashwell on. to it, the hirlo being halved in 4. Miss Collins got a fair drive at Muggeridge's,;. Miss ' Ash well's attempt being, poor, as was also her second shot. Miss Collins's second shot was a good one, ■ and she won the hole in- C to 7. The Upshot saw Miss Collins short of the bunker and Miss. Ashwell driving on to the green. ■ Miss Collins, in' her approach, went into the hole and out, whilst Miss Ashwell got down from a, long putt, and won the hole in It.'. At the, ninth hole, ; the, Lupins, both got/ in medium drives, and the hole was halved, Miss Collins thus being "2 up . at the turn. At Spion Kop: Miss Ashwell got in a very good drive, whilst Miss Collins landed just over the bunker. Miss Ashwell got in a very poor second, tyhilst Miss Collins managed to extricate herself from, the bunker. The next shot, saw. both go over the green, and the hole' was halved in 6. Miss Ashwell drove on to the green at the' Chasm, and Miss Collins into the bunker. She got out of the bunker .'with her second, and on to the green ' with her third., Miss Ashwell won the hole in 3to G. Witli

Miss Collins's next.shot went straight on .to the green, and Miss Ashwell, approaching on the green; von it in 4 to 5, making her all square with Miss Collins. At the Houso Miss .Ashwell drove out of bounds, whilst Miss Collins got in a good drive. Misa Ashwell, ' playing again . feom the tee, got in a very good drive, but the Wellington .girl won • the hole in i> t0.7. Both could only get in medium drives-at Burnside. Miss Collins got just on the left of the green with her second, whilst Miss Ashwell, after landing in the ditch twice, gave up the hole. Miss Colins got. a good drive on at tho Braes. Miss Ashwell just got over the creek and had to play out of the ditch with her niblick. She played her third into the bunker. Miss Collins's second bull had also gone into the bunker,- but in her next she played back out of it. Miss Ashwell failed to get out of the bunker*, and Miss Collins's fourth landed just on the edge of the green. Miss Ashwell managed to get out of the bunker with her next shot, Miss Collins won the hole in 7 to 8. Both got in medium drives at Cox's, which they halved in (J, and the game ended in .Miss Collins winning by 3 up and 2 to play. MISS M'RAY V. MISS BELL. Both got well away" from the Rubicon, Miss Wray reaching the green in 3, Miss Bell- being short. Miss Wray went out in 5, and Miss Bell picked up. At Wilson's Miss Wray got close to the edge of the green in 2, when Miss Bell had only just cleared the creek. Miss Wray secured tho hole in 4. At the cornor Miss Wray was on tho green from the tee. Miss Bell w-as short, but got down in 4, and Miss Wray, missing the putt, could only halve. _' At Briggs's Miss Bell played on to the' green, but putting better than Miss Wray halved the-, hole, leaving' the Manawatu "crack" 2 up. Miss Wray got in a good drive nt Land's. End, whilst Miss Bell found the water hazard, which cost her a penalty stroke. Miss Wray went out in 6, and Miss Bell gavo up. Miss Wray 3 up. Miss Wray was on the green with her iron at O'Rorkc's, whilst Miss Bell was bunkered.. Miss Wray went out in 3, and Miss Bell in 5. Miss Wray 4 up. At Muggeridge's Miss Wray had the advantage all the way and socured the hole in 6 to 7. At the Upshot Miss- Wray overcarricd the green with her driver, whilst Miss Bell landed in the bunker. Miss Wray secured the hole in 4 to 5. The Lupins was played by Miss Wray in a perfect 5, and Miss Bell gave up the hole. Miss W™y w »s now 7 up at tho turn, going out in '42 for !) holes. At Spion Kop both got into trouble with the bunkers, but Miss Belt got out better and secured her first hole. At tho Chasm Miss Wray was on tho green whilst Miss Bell found the bunker. Miss Wray went out in 3, and was again 7 up. Miss Wray got into troublo nt "Old Nick," but Miss Bell was safe and secured the hole in 4, leaving Miss Wray 6 up. At the House Miss Wray was on the green in 2, whilst Miss Bell landed in the creek. Miss Wray won the hole in 4 und tho match ended in her favour by 7 up and 5 to play.

DRIVING COMPETITION. The driving competition was won by Miss Christie (169 yards), Miss Ashwell (IC7 yards) being second, and Mrs. Buck- 1 ley. (165 yards) third. The number of competitors was legion.

APPROACHING AND PUTTING. In the approaching mid putting I competition two balls had to be.played, one over the 'bnnker., The- competition was won by Miss D. Anderson in 5, but nine competitors tied for second place with C each, and the second prize will be played for by these to-morrow. The competitors' coming second were Miss ICiiubley, Mrs. limes, Hiss Thcomin, Mrs. Warne, Aliss Collins, Mrs. Lewis, Miss Wilson, Mrs.' Handysidc, and Miss G. Gorrio. LADIES' GOLF COUNCIL. . • A MOTION OP SECESSION. ' (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, August 23. A meeting of the Ladies' Golf Council Was held to-night, Mrs. Boyle presiding over an attendance of about thirty delegates. It was decided that the New Zealand Championship should be played at Wellington next year. , A lengthy discussion ensued on- the proposal to alter'the championship pro-, gramme, and it was decided to rescind the rule providing that only one .round of the championship can be played each day. ' It was also resolved to delete from the progamme the foursomes, and tho approaching, putting, and driving, competitions. ! It was decider! lo give prizes .to the best gross seores, and for the best aggregate scores in the medal rounds. With regard to teams' matches, it,was decided that members from s clubs m the same district may ' make up a team, provided that the clubs have not more than two members on the ground. Keruits 'rem ciubs were dealt with, and it was decided that tho present connection of the council with the New Zenland Golf Council be severed. In the course of a brief discussion it was pointed out that no' benefits accrued from being affiliated to the New Zealand Council! and that the Ladies' Council was quite competent. to manage the affairs of ladies' golf in. the Dominion. A sub-committee was appointed to draw up a letter to the New Zealand Golf Council, setting out the reasons for. severance. It was resolved that it be left to the club holding the championship to decide whether it he held in August or September, and that 'the handicap limit be lowered to 20 for, the championship r'only. • '.'■'"■' It was resolved that affiliated clubs be asked to subscribe towards a case for the Donnelly Cup. ' ' . • ■ ' LADIES' GOLF UNION. ; Christchurch, August 23. A meeting of the New Zealand Branch of the Ladies' Golf Union was then held, Mrs. Vernon (in tho absence of the president, Miss .Rattray) being voted to the chair. Apologies were made for Miss Rattray and Mrs., Hope Lewis. .The secretary (Mrs. Mcllsopp) submitted her annual report, which was adopted.' \Tho'balance-sheet showed a balance to credit of .CC 19s. sd. Tho last Friday in May was, fixed as the date for the Coronation Medal Competition. A." series of motions, providing for the union taking over the championship cup, and the union providing gold, silver, and bronze medals were. agreed to. ' ■ Tho subscription to the union was fixed as follows:—Clubs with a membership of 50 and undor, 10s.; with 50 and under 100. 205.; with 100 and under 150, 80s. .
