. MEETING OF THE BOARD. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday, • Mr. 3. ■G. W. Aitken presiding.. Therc.wcre also present Messrs: R. C. Kirk.' A. H. Hindmarsli, the Rev. W. A. Evans, G. London, -J. V. .Jl'Ewau; F. T. Moore, B. "K. Gardener, Jas. Godber, Rev. H. Van Staveren, D. Robertson, W.-Galloway, J. E. Fitzgerald, and H. Baldwin:. The Hospital Committee reported that the several duties,of the Otaki resident stair had been de6ned and placed upon n more satisfactory basis. .The board decided, on the recommendation of tho.Hospital Committee, that the attention of all members of the board be drawn to the number of patients being admitted from outside the Wellington. Hospital district, without provision being made for the* payment of 40s. per week, the regulation charge for all outside patients. The' chairman of the committee (Mr. E. C. Kirk),'stated that it was desired to place further emphasis on the fact that the Wellington Hospital could not receive patients from, outside districts unless they made themselves personally responsible for the payment of the hospital fees, or were guaranteed in that respect by others. The chairman (Mr. J. G. W. Aitken) endorsed tho remark? of the previous speaker. He himself had declined to recommend cases for admittance unless this were done. Tho application of. Miss Maclean, Assistant Inspector. of Hospitals, to allow Miss Herbert, an inspector under the Infants Life Protection Act,', to undergo a three months' course of training at the Children's. Hospital, was'granted. Miss Herbert to be allowed free board .'.and residence at'the-Nurses' Home. Tenders were accepted-as- follows:— Balcony and verandah at the Victoria Home.—Humphries Bros. (.£397). Brick chimney slack for. the General Hospital: J. Lamb'-(JE6S). i The board decided, on the recommendation' of the Hospital Committee, that tenders be called for (a) 400 sheets of corrugated iron and spouting accordingly, for renewal of roof at the General Hospital, and that -the work be carried out by the .board's plumber; (b) the supply of linoleum for the Infectious Diseases Hospital, also that, alternate prices be obtained .for the cost of installing an electric or hydraulic lift in the General, Hospital, to replace the present handworked one. that is considered out of date, cumbersome, and slow. ' Outsanding '.patients' fees accountsamounting to .£B3 10s. for 1909-10 and .£1027 15s. 7d. for ! 1910-11 were written • off. : ' It was decided that representations be • made to the Public Works Department to have tho old 'Hospital Road—cut up by the Government ' special trafficplaced • in order. ■ ; ;;
