WRECK OF A CRUISER.
BEDFORD PRACTICALLY LOST. Bj Teleirraph—Pre«i.Association-Copyrißht. Kobe, August 22. Vice-Admiral Sir Alfred Winsloe, Com-mander-in-Chief on the China Station, reports that there is little chunce of salving the British first-class cruiser Bedford (completed in 1903 at a cost of ■£706,020) which struck at ' Quclpart, Korea, while steaming from Wei-hai-wei to Nagasaki. The Bedford was making full-speed trials when the accident happened. The inrush, of water when tho ship struck caused the death of an engineer, fifteen stokers, and two seamen. The remainder of the crew were taken off. The armoured cruiser Minotaur and Monmouth stood by, but heavy seas forced them to put to sea during thu night. The Bedford is full of water.to the engine-room bulkhead.
KING'S SYMPATHY AND REGRET. (Rec. August 23, 9.50 p.m.) London, August 23. King George, in a letter to the Admiralty, has expressed his deep regret at the Bedford disaster, and his sympathy with the relatives of 'the victims.
