BLAZE NARROWLY AVERTED.
PECULIAR ORIGIN. By Teleßraph.-Speeinl Correspondent.) Wanganui, Augilßt 23. Another, 'disastrous blaze was narrowly averted last night by the promptitude of the night-watchman at Bassett's timber mill, .who discovered the shavings''room ablaze. The origin of the fire was rather remarkable. ■ Some, light, fluffy "dust in the stokehold by some means became ignited, and tire ran a.ong the dust some distance to as jron/wall. As it happened, there was n very sin:ill hole in this wall in whirl'. !ms! Jiad'also collected; and this also lock lire. As they burnt the fine particle.- foil down, on the shavings inside'the next room, and thus tho outbreak • arose. The fire was promptly put out by the fire brigade, which was quickly on the spot. Xhe damage consisted ul the scorching of the walls of the room, and was so slight that two or three pounds will cover tho loss.
