LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.

: . THE SEMI-FINALS REACHED. ■ (By Telegraph —Press Association.) Christchurch, August 22. The Now Zealand ladies' golf championship was continued this / morning, when tlio fourth round was played under fine weather conditions, though a strong -nor'-easter somewhat militated against good play. The meeting of Miss Collins and Miss Campbell had been looked forward ,to with great interest, and after a fine display Miss Collins qualified for the semi-final, ; defeating Hiss Campbell by 4 up and 3 to play. Miss Humphreys gave Miss Wray a hot "bo," though the latter-finally got home by 3 up and 1 to play. Miss Ashwell beat Miss Gome by 1 up at the 18th hole, whilst Miss Bell prevailed over Mrs. Bortliwick by 4 up and 3 to play. There are thus left in the semi-finals three North Islanders and one South Islander. Miss Ashwell (Timaru) meets Miss Collins (Wellington), whilst Miss Wray (Manawatu) meets Miss Bell . (Welling, ton). The winners in the semi-finals meet in the final on Wednesday. To-morrow afternoon will see the driving, approaching, putting, and bogey foursomes competitions in full swing.

/Fourth Round. The following are the results of the fourth round !of the. championship :—. Miss Ashwell beat Miss Gorrie, 1 up at the 18th hole. ' Miss Collins beat Miss Campbell, 4 up and 3 to play; Miss Wray beat Miss Humphreys, 3 up and 1 to play. Miss Bell beat Mrs. Borthwick, 4 up and 3 to play. Miss Wray and Miss Humphreys'. Both Miss Wray and Miss Humphreys got away frith good drives, followed by good seconds. Miss Wray played, a bad third, whilst Miss Humphreys struck the flag, and dropped within a foot of the hole, going down in 5 to - Miss Wray's 6. Miss Humphreys was 1 up at the second hole. Both then made good drives, and both carried the stream, but Miss Wray landed on the edge of the green,-going down in 4 to 5, all square. At the third hole Miss Wray played and the hole went to the Manawatu lady, 3 to 4. -Miss Wray was 1 up at the fourth. The shots were both short, but Miss Wray played a good second and won by 5 to 6. "Land's End" saw even play to the green, which resulted in square in 6. At "Rorke's Drift" Miss Wray was_ short of the green with an iron, with Miss Humphreys well on the green with her driver. Miss Wray played a very good "masliie" up to tho pjn. At "Muggeridge's" MissWray out-drove Miss Humphreys by 80 yards, and Hiss Humphreys played odd all the way to the green, but Miss Wray topped her approach, and ran right across. Coming back they could only halve the holo in 7. At the "Upshot" Miss Wray got a beautiful drive to the hill overlooking the green, whilst Miss Humphreys found a bunker. Getting out well, however, she was about ten feet from the hole. Miss Wray played a "masliie" down the side of the hill with very fine .judgment, running within three inches of the hole* which she secured in 3. At "The Lupins" play was even, and tho hole was halved in 5, leaving Miss Wray 3 up at the turn, .the scores being: Aln,» Wray, 42; Miss Humphreys, 45. At "Spionkop" both were bunkered, ana Miss Humphreys only got short of a second bunker by two yards, whilst Miss Wray found it. Miss Humphreys made a weak approach, and was only just over the bunker. Miss Wray was equally r.eak in getting out. The hole was still anybody's, but Miss Wray missed a two-feet putt, and Miss-Humphreys secured tne hole in C, Miss Wray 2 up. At "The Chasm" Miss AVrny pulled her shot, but wns In good country, whilst Miss Humphreys secured tho green from a bunker, and holed out in 4. Miss Wray could only halve the hole. "Old Nick" saw Miss Humphreys to the left of the green, with - Hiss Wray on. Miss Humphreys' approach ivns short, but her. third well up. Ifiss Wray took 3 "putts, and the hole was halved in 4. At "Tho House" Miss Humphreys got on a beautiful drive, whilst Miss Wray drove along the ground, and had to take the niblick for her second shot owing to her bad lie. Mian < Humphreys approached the green with

her braesie, and Hiss Wray found tho creek, giving up the hole. iliss Wray 1 up. At "Burnside" both got good drives, but Miss Humphreys overran the green, whilst Miss Wray played a feeble shot into tho crcek. At the second attempt she approached to within a foot of tho pin, while Miss Humphreys came hack feebly, the hole being halved in U. At "Brass's" both got good drives. Misfi Humphreys'sliced her second to the right of the green with her iron, and tho hole was halved in 5. Going to "Cox's" both got good drives, Miss Wray's second was on the green, whilst Hiss Humphreys only just escaped the bunker. Miss Wray was wide with lier approach, anil Miss Humphreys had a gocd chance of halving, but missed a two-feet putt, and Miss Wray took the liolc'in 5, doriny-2. At tho 17th both got good 'drives, but for the rest of the journey Miss Humphreys was in trouble all the way, Miss Wray winning the hole and the match by 3 up and 1 to play.

Inter-Island Match. The inter-island match resulted in a win for tho Southerners by tho narrow' margin of 5 points. Each team consisted of eight players," but, in accordance with the rule in suck games, the two highest scorers, Miss Hindmarsh (107) and Miss Innes (101), of the 'North Island, and Miss Snodgrass (115) and ijiss ' Asliwell (108), of the South, were disqualified. The following are the scores:—North Island: Miss Collins, 98; Miss Brandon, 99; Miss A. Pearce, 303; Miss Wray, 97; Miss G. Gorrie, 98; Miss E. Pearce, 96; total, 591., South Island: Miss Gould, 93; Miss Campbell, 99; Miss Humphreys, 94; Mrs. M'Carthy, 106; Miss Symes, 96; Miss Wilson, 98; total, 58S.
