FOB -BLACK SPOT ON CITRUS. I'IIUIT.- . " The following ;is; from 'the' "Agricultural Gazette" of' New South, Wales:— "Eccentlj'.: claims- were put forward for •an.< alleged:'remedy for black spot of citrus fruits, and other, diseases, viz., the "application of commoii;:Washirig,' soda to the hase.vof the: trees :just below 1 .the' groundi'.. Mj\ W. J.. Allen, fruit expert of the Department of Agriculture, and Ht. . T.-v. Harvey Johnston, assistant microbiologist, Bureau of Microbiology, recently ".visited' two orchards in the .Rydalmore, district; where, .this treatment had been applied' to various trees, but the officers were unable to. see any improvement. in the trees so treated, which were in no better condition than > untreated trees.
'These results are confirmed by those of experiments mado at' Durel, whero black spot in citrus fruits is being investigated, and efforts are being mado to.determine the.most effective preventive treatment."

It is reported (says the "Agricultural Gazette" 'of New South Wales) that on the Bellinger a pretty .common complaint s a form of eczema on the fingers from milking. ;: The trouble appears to .commence- around the quick of the nails, then small water}' blisters are formed, which turn to matter, and are very painful. The Public Health Department states that thorough washing .>• of' v . tho . hnnds with borax soap, both before aii'3 after milking, with subsequent' dressing ■with chough lanoline. to; make.. Ihem slightly greasy, will' probably cure- the troublcr . * ' -
