Owners should note that acceptances for the first day's events at the Horowhenua Hack Racing Club's meeting close on Friday nest with tho secretary, Mr. I\ G. Roe. ' Maori King was not' mentioned in the betting when lie ran second to Gigandra in the Dundas Handicap at Rosehill on August 13. • Ho was ridden by W. H. M'Lachlan, and after putting in a brilliant run ill tho straight was only beaten by a head, . Gold Lace is reported to be doing well since her arrival at Randwick, but she had not been allotted any fast work up till tho date' on which tho last mail left. Mallet, 7st. 131b., was omitted from tho published list, of weights for the Welter Hack Handicap at tho Horowhenua Hack Racing, Club's meeting. R. Cameron ,was not injuredi when Jewel -Case fell in the Australian Hurdle Race. The New Zealand jockey rode Skybolt to victory in one of the welter events on the second day of tho V.A.T.C. raeeting. Duart, who was hurt at Trentham two years ago and who has not raced since, is again in work at Auckland, and is sprint* ing well. 1 • T. Pritchard, who was injured when riding Kiatere in the Lincoln Steeples at Riccarton, has been found to have several more ribs broken than was at first thought. - W. Young will ride Penza and Lares at the Horowhenua meeting. Mr. G. D. Greenwood, the New Zealand sportsman, has purchased a station (Tocal) near Longreach, and no doubt later on will race a horse or two at tho northern meetings (says the Sydney "Referee"). At tho annual meeting of members of the Ashliurst-Pohangina Racing Club, tho following officers were elected President, Mr. D. McCarthy (re-elected) ;■ vicepresidents, Messrs. T. Evans and R. Lloyd; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. H. Paton (re-olected. unopposed); stewards, Messrs. T. Grammer, P. Haulon, T. Hart, R. Lloyd, H. Lovelock, H. Dixon, J. N.. Newton, L. Lovelock, S. Evans, and W. Hunt. The name of Black Reynard was among those of tho horses engaged at one of the Sydney suburban' meetings last Saturday.

An advertisement in this issue states that the imported horso Campfire (Carbine—Revelry) will bo at the services of breeders - in the New Plymouth district this season. Cnmplire's iirst and. second year's stock are well spoken of.

Circus Girl (Pha'etbon—Adventuress), who broke down at the Grand, National meeting, has been booked to Boniform.

Paisano, winner of 1 the Grand National Hurdles, is to be kept in light work for the present. His i*xt important engagement will probably be the Auckland Cup. ' : Reports from Sydney state that, the New Zealand mare Crucinella now shares favouritism .'with Britain for the A.J.C. Metropolitan Handicap. ■Penates will not, it is understood, be prepared for the New Zealand Cup. It is likely that lie will bo withdrawn from that event during the next few days. Jlartist, by Martian, is among the candidates that have been supported for the New Zealand Cup. Gold Battery (Field Battery—Cyanide) is another candidate that has been backed to some extent.. Broadsword has not yet competed in a race in Victoria, but he was entered for a race at Caulficld last Saturday. The Auckland trainer It. M'Milten arrived from Riccarton by the Tarawera on Sunday on his way home from the Grand National meeting. ~ According to an Auckland writer an effort has. been made to secure the services of B. Deeley for Sunburnt in the. A.J.C. lipsom Handicap, and the Auckland lightweight is now only .waiting for word from Denis Moraghan regarding the mount on Master Soult. Provided' he makes the trip, he will leave for Sydney, via Wellington, after tho second day- of the Avondale meeting, reaching Sydney on the Tuesday before the meeting opens.
