DYNAMITE SHIP ON FIRE.
EXCITEMENT IN POET ADELAIDE. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright Adelaide, August 22. A small steamer, named the South Africa, carrying 300 tons of dynamite, caught fire at Port Adelaide. The River Brigade manned a life-boat and subdued the flames after two hours' work. There was tremendous excitement. An explosion would have wrecked most of the town.
CREW'S PLUCKY FIGHT. (Rec. August 22, 10.5 p.m.) Adelaide, August 22.' There were twelve persons aboard the South Africa when the fire broke out. Seven got away in a boat, but the second mate, the second engineer, and three seamen remained on board and put up a splendid fight, keeping tlio flames in check till tho fire-float arrived. Whon the news spread'that an'explosion was possible there was great excitement ashore, and the congregations deserted the churches and hurried home.
