A FOOTBALLER'S DEATH. KICKED JUST BELOW THE BEAM'. (By Mesrapii.—Press Association.) Napier, August 21. A young man named Sidney Samuel Charlton, aged 23, son of Mr. S. Charlton, .hotelkeeper, of Hastings, was fatally injured while playing football on the Napier Recreation Ground oil Saturday afternoon. Some close play having taken place on oiie part of the field, the game shifted, but Charlton, who had been taking a very active part, remained lying on the ground. At first. it was thought ho was merely winded, but when how he was said he felt very "crook," adding that ho had been kicked just' below the heart. Ho was removed to the pavilion, and a restorative. administered, but he gradually sank and died in twenty minutes after thq accident. ■An inquest will bo held on Monday. A BUSH FATALITY. Auckland, August 21. The VWliitianga correspondent of the "Herald" telegraphs that a fatal accident occurred at Stoney Creek Bush yesterday afternoon. A man named Edward Larkins, working for Mr. Geo. Wallace, ■ contractor, was looking after some kauri logs preparatory to their being shifted by a steam log hauler. When in the act of loosing a boulder that was obstructing ; the progress of one of . the logs the grips flew out, striking liini on the side of the head and fracturing tho base of the skull. He was carried to Tairua by his mates and brought to the Mercury Bay Hospital 1 by motor launch, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission. , . CONDITION SERIOUS. / Auckland, August 20. A middle-aged man, named Peter Hallman, was picked up by. the police last night in an unconscious condition, and was taken to the Hospital. He had jiot come round this afternoon, and his condition is serious., Nothing is known of the man beyond his, name. OLD' MAN'S SUDDEN DEATH. Dunedin, August 21. .Edward Flynri, aged 64 years, who carried on business as a second-hand dealer, • .dropped dead' in : Park Street yesterday. Deceased had been in bad health for some' years. ■
