Government regarding the establishment of tho sugar-beet industry, a public, meeting, convened' by . tho Majw, will ■bo hold here on Wednesday next to. discuss tho. possibilty of starting such an industry in Wangamii. So far nothing definite is in shape, the idea being to set up. a committee to make-inquiries and obtain data, with a. view to ; future action. Experiments which, have already been mads in the country districts north ami south of Wangamii go to show that, the soil and climate of this part of tho Dominion arc well adapted to produce a beet giving n high percentage of sugar.' There will shortly be a very important addition to Wangp.nui's manufacturing industries, Consequent oil the removal of Lockingbar Pipe Works from Auckland tho proprietary intends shortly to make, ii start ivitli the levelling of the new site between tho Heads Road and the Ccstlocliff Railway Company's line, rorering a considerable area. Preparations are now in 'train for the removal of the plant from Auckland, but, before this is undertaken, railway sidings will be put in, so that the whole machinery can run from Auckland via tha Main Trunk to the new site on one handling. When the Locking Bar plant is ; inst.-i]led, the machinery from the AVaiiganui Spiral Pipe Works will then be transferred, and thereafter will be two plants working under one roof. Tlio company has several large contracts in view, and expects to bo busy for a long time to come. '
