INTEREST IN THE ZAMBESIRACE. (l'rom Our Special Correspondent.) Palrnerston, August 19. Great interest was manifested ill tho boat race yesterday between Arnst' and Harry for tho championship of the world, and the result ,was anxiously looked for. Most people were of opihA ion Arnst would prove victorious, but, of -.course,- there is.always the clement of doubt, ■as it is never kiiown what accident may happen ; to upset the calculations of the most astute.-." That Now Zealand should produce tho champion .rower of the world is, of course/ a very good advertisement for the-, Dominion. But what a cheer would have gone up if it had been "Billy" Webb—who is such a good sport—who had beaten, the redoubtable, Barry! Very heavy rain, accompanied occasionally with heavy showers' of hail, has fallen in l'aluierston during the last two nights, with tho result that paddocks, which have been comparatively dry, arc for the first time this winter covered with';largo pools of, water. Through spouting and. .gutters' becoming blocked, several; drapery and 'clothing establishments, suffered damage to their stocks by' the -water getting through the root's. Beyond this, however, little damage, has been done. The Supreme Court opens here on Monday, with Judge'■ Cooper presiding. There was a good attendance at St. Andrew's last night, ' notwithstanding tho inclement weather, when Bro. C. W. Naylor gave an organ recital to the members of Huia Masonic Lodge and members of tho craft generally and lady friends. Brp. Naylor gave a 'diversified programme, which was greatly appreciated. ' 8r0... M. Cohen contributed two violin solos, Bio. 6. H. Bennett a vocal number, and Bro. J. C. Lano played two voluntaries. Bro. Rev. G. K. Aitken gave, a short address on "Charity," on which tho whole Masonic structure was based. At the conclusion of the programme, a vote of thanks to those who had contributed to the evening's enjoyment was moved by Bro. R. M'Nab. The monthly mooting'of the Philosophical Society, was to have been held last night, but, owing to tho rough weather, there was only a small attendance, and the meeting was adjourned. .Loyal Mana-watu lxKlgc, 1.0.0. F., M.U., held its, usual meeting last night, Bro. F. AV. Pettett in the chair. One now member was initiated, and routine business was transacted. At the Salvation Army Barracks last flight a supper was held, with the object of raising funds to reduce 'some minor debts. Adjutant and Mrs. Haywood are away at .Rotorua recuperating, and tho members of the Army wish ■to give thorn a pleasant surprise on their return, by' having these minor affairs put straight. An interesting lecturotte,' entitled "Round About Windsor Castle," was given at Broad Street Methodist Church last night by tho Rev. C. El Boceroft. The lecture was illustrated with some excellent lantern pictures, aud proved interesting and instructive. THE CAUSE OF RHEUMATIC PAINS BEHOVED., There are several causes of Bheumatism, but the most common/is the presence of Uric acid in the blood. This acid is responsible for the excruciating pains in vnrious parts of the body, notably the muscles of tho back. Bid tho blood of this foreign substance and the pains will disappear. That is tlio mission of KKEUMO-it gels right at tho root of the evil and makes tho acid literally take to its' heels and run, never to return. RHEUMO cures permanently when other remedies fail, even temporarily. Oilier remedies, liniments, embrocations, plasters, or pills—cannot cure Kheuiimtism. Thov do not touch the real cause of tho suffering. lUIEUMO is the nno medicine Hint brings relief. Give lUIEUMO a (rial.
