FURTHER DISCUSSION IN COUNCIL
RAILWAY EMPLOYEES.
POSITION OF THE RIVAL OR- , GANISATIONS. Tho most interesting feature of tho business of the Legislative Council yesterday was a personal explanation (which will bo found in another column) made by the Attorney-General in regard to the Mokau, Estate. Prom this the Council went on to deal with a:number of informal gambling petitions, and thence it took up the debate on .tho second reading of the Ciimes Amendment Bill. In. the House there was a ; lengthy .discussion in' the afternoon with reference to various railway matters, particularly on tho. question as to whether, the Enginemen's' Association should receive official recognition. During the rest of the afternoon and the early part of the evening Ministerial replies to questions were discussed. The sitting concluded with an unfinished debate on the awar,d of the New Zealand Cross to Mr. H. J. Wrigg, of Auckland. '
