THE "DAILY MAIL" MINIATURE . CLUBS AND THE EMPIRE.
Tho "Daily Mail" recently announced that at the request of Lord Roberts, the prop'rictbrs'of that journal have decided to inaugurate' a' competition for tho miniature rifle clubs of the British Empire. The contest will be open to any team of ten from any miniature rifle cliib in tho British Einpiro -affiliated to the Society, of Miniature Rifle. Clubs, Queen Victoria Street, E.C., and will bo shot on Lord Roberts's birthday, September 30, i each yor. , ' , . ■ • ■ n ■ Lord Roberts has issued an appeal to the miniature rifle.clubs of tho Empire, in the course of. which he says:—"At present there aro affiliated to the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs about 2500 clubs, representing a membership of about 250,000. Great progress has peon made .since tho formation of the society in 1901; but much still remains to be done. As an incentive to further effort, .the 'Daily Mail' has kindly' offered to present each year for competition a 50-guinea cup and silver comniemoralivo medals, and I sincerely hope that every miniature rifle club at Home and abroad which is affiliated or can become affiliated to the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs will make a special effort to enter a representative team. Secretaries of clubs and others interested in miniature rifle shooting are requested to communicate with tho organising secretary, tho "Daily Mail" Mimaturo Clubs' Contest, Carmelite House, London, B.C. The conditions of the contest have been drawn up by an advisory committee, of which Lord Roberts is chairman. Iho. distance will be 25 yards and 20 shots will bo fired—lo deliberate and ten m3O seconds. Entries must be received not later than the first post on September 1, 1910. To the team making the highest aggregate score a 50-gutnca cup and ten silver commemorative medals will bogiven. The team making the second highest aggregate score and tho overall team, other than a winning team, making tho highest aggregate ecore will also receive silver medals. ■
A meeting of delegates from Morristubo and miniature rifle clubs desirous of joining the proposed miniature rifle association will be held at Tandy's Zealandia Kangc, Taranaki Street, this evening at 8 o'clock, when matters in connection with the formation of a strong association will lio discussed.
