A BOOM IN AMERICA
INTOXICATED BY HIGH PROFITS By TelegraDh-rrcs3 Association-Copyright. London, August 15. "Tho Times," in n leading article, says —"Tho general consensus of business opinion in tho United States is that there has been an excess of optimism since the summer of 1908, which necessitates a curb on the exuberance of commercial and industrial aspirations. Tho New York associated banks with difficulty brought loans and discounts below deposits, and financiers are uneasy" owing to the increase of the-railways' foreign indebtedness, and the surprising frivolity of the farmers and citizens of tho Western States, who, intoxicated by high profits, have locked up their resources not only in bricks and mortar, but have also got a craze for automobiles."
