Steps; are being taken. to. establish in Ne« ;/ Zealand branches of the Laymen's Missionary-Movement, which has made considerable progress recently in America, .Great Britain, and Australia. Dr.. M'Laren, of the ■ Australasian Students' : Christian "Union, and Dr. Pettit, of Otago University, are due in Wellington on Aigust 24 as' delegates of the Australasian: movement. . They will hold meetings.in connection with the principal churches, and. on the. last day o£ their stay—August 31—they will hold an interdenominational meeting : for the purpose of awakening public interest in the movement.' On Sunday, August 28, they will conduct services in ■ four of the principal churches,: and in the afternoon give an address at the Y.M.C;A. Dr. M'Laren will afterwards go as a missionary to Seoul, Korea, and-Dr. Pe'ttit'as a'mission-, ary to India. ■ : . '..'■'"

The objects of the Laymen's Missionary Movement are declared to be as follow: —(1) To induce men to pray for missions;' (2) to organise study circles designed to promote a better knowledge of; missions; X 3) to encourage systematic giving through agencies already existing; Xi) to orgamso inter-denominational conferences; (5) to secure the publication and distribution of missionary literature.

. The inter-denominational committeo ivhich is arranging for the Wellington , meetings, met last' evening at the T.M.C.A., the Hon. G. Fowlds presiding. ■' Arrangements were ' made for the two . delegates to address men of the various denominations -as follow:—Wednesday, August- 24, 6'.p.ni., Congrtgationalists, at a tea, to be held in the Terrace Congrega- ' tionaj Church; 8 p.m., Church of Christ, - ■ at Vivian Street Chapel; Thursday, Aul. eust 25,. 6'p.m., Baptist, at tea, to be . held in .Vivian Street .Church; 8 p.m., Church of England Men's Society; Friday, August 20, 8 p.m., Victoria College Chris- .■•. tian Students' Society; Monday, August 28, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., Presbyterians and Methodists. The final inter-denomina-tional "rally" will be held in St. John's : Church. .■■■.'-■
