A. NELSON MOVEMENT. '. .'. [To the Editor.] Sir,—After a considerable lapse of time the citizens o£ Nelson and district have awoke to the fact that they havo failed to honour or commemorate the memory of one ot their most distinguished past citizens, and elforts are now in progress to pay a fitting tribute to the late Hon. uoionel i'ltt, who, at tho .time of his deatu, held the ollice of Attorney-Ueneral . in the present Cabinet. Tew men were held in Higher esteem than the deceased gentleman, who was a most conscientious writer, not only lor his district, but the Dominion generally, and as a volunteer officer of over- , twenty years' standing he was always consiucrcd a model of thoroughness and regularity, and his actions at all times, whether publicly or privately, were characterised Uy the highest motives. It lias occurred to m c that there may be, in Wellington and other parts of New Zealand, many personal . friends of the late Colonel Pitt who would like to become identified with the memorial, which it is proposed to establish to his memory, and 1 should be pleased to receive and acknowledge any contri- ■ but ions to tho fund that may be "fonrarued.
