- [ .-]\' CENSUS RETURNS., ./ .' . ..(By TeleffrapiK~!?res3. Association.) ■ ■'-_;.'_, Auckland,' August 15. The dissatisfaction, that exists amongst business men in Auckland in regard to the detailed information asked for'by the Census Department in' respect to the taking of. the quinquennial trade returns next year was represented to the Hon. G. Fowlds by a large and representative deputation, of merchants .and.manufacturers which waited upon the Minister this afternoon. • , . . . : !■ V ■ . . . Mr. .'J. H. Gunson, .president' of the Chamber, of Commerce, referred to the : heads:pf the information.as-to the details of business matters which were asked for, and' said that many of the requirements appeared, to' be of-an unnecessarily .in-quisitorial-nature.. :' "■': :■•.. , Mr. Fowlds.said that he would be pleased, to. place.}their representations before his : colleagues. It certainly did seem. . from what they had said, that to make, np,the returns asked for. woKld involve a great deal of labour, and it was pps-' sible;that" a'.very considerable modification:- would .iueel all requirements. There had.; been a feeling that' the statistics .hitherto.collected did not give all the information ■ that was desirable, nor was it as full'as was'obtained in the Australian States,: and he understood that the object of'the ; 'amended form of return was - to bring "this .into line' with Australia in regard to these returns. ■'■..■'
