WORST TRIP FOR MANY YEARS.
A SCOW'S,EXPERIENCE. ;.- "The wmsfc tor many years," was Captain Pearson's reply,, when a ' reporter questioned him'as to how the scow Whangaroa had fared during her long voyage from Sydney to .Wellington. The vessel left Sydney ou July 10 and was towed into Port Nicholson early, yesterday morning. When. Captain Pearson ineutioncd that his trip had been-unusually long it was poiuted out. that the l'olotas had quite recently taken 40 days on the run from'-New Zealand to Sydney. 1 "She has arrived then," said the captain! - "They wero inquiring for her when we left. Still, one looks for long passages going that way, but it is a long time since I remember such terrible 'weather as we had ou this voyage." Continuing, he stated thai, gales were encountered as soon'as Sydney was left behind and they looked in vain lor the tempest to abate As the days passwl its fury only incensed and the si'ow, uu account of her'small dimensions, was on occasions almost entirely at the mercy ot thti howling, winds and scourging seas. It was hard driving during the ivholo of tile twenty-eight days and master and crew were naturally very glad to reach the shelter ol I'or't Nicholson. All on board are well and the vessol weathered the succession of storms without sustaining anything but trifling damage. Her cargo is hardwood uud ou completing discharge she goes to Mokau to load lor Sydney.
