Frank Trembath was charged at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. Kettle, S.M., with failing to pay arrears on an order for. support of his child. ■ In the course of his evidence defendant stated ho had bought a 15s. postal order from.the post office at Onehunga that" morning, and had posted it.to tho clerk of the Court. The case was then adjourned until tho afternoon, when the hearing was resumed. Defendant, repeated his statement, 'a-iid signed a document to the. effect that it was true. The postal noto had not, however, been received by the clerk. "Do you still say that you told the truih about tho postal noto?" tasked lus Worship. _ > Witness (after somo hesitation): No, tt is a lie. Mr. Kettle stated he felt.all along that defendant had been lying, and added that ho did not know how he could have stood there and committed such cold-blooded perjury. He was not sure whether ho should not direct a prosecution against defendant. He ordered him to pay the amount of arrears, and, in default, he would have to undergo one month's imprisonment. Defendant was also ordered to find .securities for due compliance with the order.
