His Excollency tho Governor, Lord Islington, left Lyttelton for Wellington last night by'the Mararoa. Hβ is accompanied by Captain Shannon, A.D.C., and Mr. Kerr Clark, private secretary. The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Railways, left Christchurch List night for Wellington. „ Captain G. G. Smith, Royal Naval Registrai-j is returning this morning from Lyttelton, where he has-been on naval reserve business. A dinner is to bo given to-night at the Hotel Windsor by the Victoria Collego Graduates' Association to Mr. J. W. Joynt, registrar of the New Zealand University, who is shortly leaving the Dominion to take up duty as London agent of tho. University. The death occurred at tho Otaki Sanatorium on Thursday night of Mr. Daniel Murphy, an inmate of the institution for eight months past. Deceased, who was 26' years of age, belonged to Wellington. News was received here yesterday of the death in the Auckland Hospital of Mr. David Billmaai, late of Wellington. Mr. Billman, who was 64 years of age, died after an operation. Mr. D. M'Laren,.M.P., is to deliver a lecture at Masterton, on the aims of the Labour party, on Monday next. The death occurred at Melbourne, on Thursday, of the wife of Mr. Charles Pratt, of Wellington- ■ • Mr. William Henry, founder and present secretary of the Royal Life Saving Society, will tour Australia and New Zealand in the interests of the society next summer. He is due in New Zealand early in November, and will be prepared to give lectures, examine candidates for the society's awards, and generally do what he can to help forward the lifersaving movement in the Dominion. Mr. W. Wilson, of the lecturing staff of Auckland University College, arrived yesterday morning by the Victoria, and is spending a few days here before proceeding to Canterbury; The funeral of the late Mr. George Denton, an old and much-respected resident of this city, which took place yesterday, was very largely attended. A short service. was held' at the dfeceased's late residence, Woolcombe Street,, the Revs. S. J. Serpell, F. W. Isitt, and Dr. Gibb officiating. These clergymen, with the Rev. J. Dawsdn, also officiated at tho graveside. The chief mourners were the'sons resident in New Zealand—Messrs. W. H., F. J., and L. A. Denton—and Messrs. W. G. Adkin, L. J. Adkin, A. J. Bennett, W. H.
