Camillo Bcnso di Cavour, th 6 regenerator of Italy, and ono of the greatest of modem statesmen, was born at Turin on August 1, 1810. After being trained for the Army he undertook tlic management of the family estates, and later in life entered 1 politics. From 1852 to his death in 1861 ho was, except for a short interval, the Prime Minister, and virtual ruler of his country. Cavour was the indispensable person who brought into play all the other agencies which resulted in the unification of Italj and its estab-. lisument as . a modern constitutional State. • He died from overwork in tho midst of his labours.
