■ POLICE ACTION YESTERDAY. : : _At noon yesterday a police information was laid in connection with an occurrence which ,is alleged . to lave .. taken place during the progress of the AtMetio-Poneko' football match last Saturday., The information charges Artnur Wii- •/•"' son, one .of the Athletic forwards and a . ; member. of the last All Black combinaHon, ' with unlawfully assaulting Duilio Calcinai, a Poneke,' player,- in such manner, to - cause lum actual bodily harm. '/.Wilson will appear at the Mag- .'- istrate's Court on the morning of; Sep.v tembeiv 7. -During the course" of yester- : . day, afternoon other steps incidental to the, case'were'taken-by-the police, ten witnesses being subpoenaed to give evi- ' dence. , The \ information, - against . Wilson charges him {with an indictable offence, and should -a prima facie case: be established ..before - the Magistrate; he may have to stand his- trial at the Supreme Court sittings. The police officials state that were-it not: for the fact that .Calcinai was' un- ; able• to speak, -. owing to a' rather' seri- :■/ ously fractured jaw, the case would bo proceeded 1 with at once. . ■ Inspector Ellison.' informed representatives of the press yesterday morning . 'that' in all. cases where (there is reasonable evidence of "assault, whether, on the sports ground or anywhere else, a police prosecution- will follow.
