(From Our Special OorrwDondont.l . :■*'■ ' ,■., - ■ A RINK CARNIVAL. • ' ■ A very successful carnival was that Held ,at the Lower Hutt Skating Rink last Tho hall was crowded with spectators, , and there were about 200 skaters masked ; and in fancy or poster dress on tho floor. The grand. march, under the direction of Mr. D. Dennehy, was: a feature. "Professor Athos" was loudly applauded for his clever 'performance, which included a leap over ten chairs, turning in mid-air, ami alighting facing tho opposite way to that in which he started. The judges had a difficult task before them, but, after much'deliberation, awarded the pries as follow:— Best ladies' fancy dress: Hiss Hodgins, "Left Luggage"; best t gentleman's fancy, dress: Mr. Foley, "Indian' Snnaw"; '■ best :girls' fancy dresa: Hiss Eston, 'Irish Washerwoman"; first prize for a comical character: Mr..-Beale; best fancy dress. ;for boy: Master Osborne, "A Suffragette." : The various events were won as follow: —Ladies' musical chairs: Miss Hodgins; men's one mile handicap: Mr. 1). Morris; couples' race: Mr. and Miss Battersby; obstacle race:-Mr. Twomey; girls' race: Miss Bowie;, couples' race (under sixteen ;-years): Miss A. Bowers and Mo'ster Macintosh; boys' novelty race: Master W. Williamson. '; TEMPLARS.. The Hope of Petono Lodge of Good met in the Ranfurly Hall at 'Petono last evening for their weekly session, Mt. Fuller, 8.5., presiding over a very large attendance'of members. , There also present members from the Johnsonville Lodge, as well as tho Lower Hutt Lodge, who were all officially welcomed; New .members .were initiated, and after various business was transacted the Lodge went into harmony. , PETONE JUNIOR CLUB. ,P Th« fourth annual "social" in connection with the Pcton* Junior Club «-as ;held last evening. There were, over one hundred and fifty present, and a most enjoyable evening was spent.. Mr. D. Davlin was tho energetic secretary; KETONE FIRE BRIGADE. .' The Petono Fire Brigade entertained members of tho other Hutt Valley brigades at a card tournament last 1 evening, when the Gear Company's brigade proved to be the winners. After supper, songs and various doings helped to pass a very pleasantevening. PETONE PALACE RINK. .'•'■ The popularity of skating in Petone since tho opening of-the Palace Rink has grown to such an extent that it has induced tho management to hold a'fancy dress and poster, carnival next Wednesday night, and, judging by the increase of skaters each evening, it should provo a 'great success. Novel attractions are announced for that evening. Last night again every skate during learners' session was in use, and the later, session was well' patronised. . . . TO CURE BRONCHITIS.
