Messrs. Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., report:— At our Wanganui sale yesterday wo yarded 2000' sheep and 130 cattle. . The sheep' were mostly of poor•> quality,, and,- for these, competition was dull, though wo succeeded in Quitting nil yarded except aMins of hoggets. Cattle were in good demand and sold well up ..to. late rates. There was a'largo and re-' presentative attendance of buyers, and keen competition prevailed throughout. Thirty-three Holstein cobs brought from £6 155.-to £23 155., making-'on average of £11- 9ai Twenty-two Shorthorn Jersey cross cows sold-'from £6 to;-£11 10s.,;.'averaging ,£9. Chrlstchurch, August 10. At Addington yards thorc were very small'entries of stock and a limited attendance, the sale being over by noon. Eat ;ca±tlo were firm in price, and 1 fat sheep showed ! a sharp rise in values on -account of short supply. Store sheep showed practically no change. Very little business was done in pigs and storo cattle.-I In keeping with the entries in other classes the yarding. of store sheep was a; small - one, and . consisted of two . or three pens of ewes, a pen'of wethers, and the balance hoggets. The latter were all of .medium quality. ' Ewes were good 'types, while wethers were forward. For all .classes there was good- demand,, and prices were on-a par with those ruling the previous week. ' Ewe hoggets made 143. 3d. to 14s. lid.; mixed sexes, 12s. to 145.; wether hoggets, to 12s. lid.; sir and cighWooth ewes,' 18s. ,4d.;.,aged ewes, 9s. to 10s.; and forward wethers, 15s. 9d. Thcro was a very small yarding of fat sheep, and being short of requirements of butchers there was a rise of about 2s. 6d. to 3s. per head. A few pens of fat hoggets sold well. Only two new season's lambs were sent in, and .they made 21s. The range of prices was:—Prime wethers, 20s. to 265. 3d.; extra, to 305.; others, 16s. Bd. to 19s. 9d.; ewes, 14s. to 18s. 6d.; merino wethers, 20s. to. 20s. fid.; hoggets, 15s. to' 17s.'lid. i • The yarding of fat cattle-'showed a marked falling away compared with the previous week, entries totalling only 149 as against 281. The quality; too, compared unfavourably in proportion to extra prime animals, being much smaller. Owing to the short Bupply thcro was very keen demand, and all animals,offered changed hands, ■ values--being very firm at last week's quotations. Steers realised £8 ss, to £i 0 155.; extra, to £15; heifers, £5 10s to £8 55.; and cows, £5 17s. 6d. to £9 10s Beef made 20s. to 23s- per 1001b.. according to quality, and in a few isolated instances 'these values were exceeded. ■ A small yarding o£ store cattle, mostly of inferior quality, niet with weak demand, few of those present being apparently anxious to do business. Yearlings sold up to 305.; three-year steers, £5 10s.; .three-year heifers, £4 55.; and dry cows, £2 to £5 2s. 6d. Dairy cows, which wore of good quality, met with fair demand, and most lots offered changed hands. The quality was on the whole satisfactory. Prices ranged from £3 10s. to £10 7s. 61 ' • ■ Tho yarding of till descriptions of pigs was small, and there was fair demand. Baconers realised to 505., equivalent to 4d. •r. lb. The smaller sorts of baconers were' sold as porkers, and in consequenoe of the short supply brought good prices, selling up to sd. per lb. ■ The store market opened weakly, but improved, and at the close of the sale-prices were 2s. 6d. to 3s. above opening rates. Medium stores made 225. to 275., and smaller 16s. to. 205.. Weancrs brought 9s. 6d. to 12s. Dunedln, August' 10. Burnsido stock market:—Fat cattle: 156 head yarded, the quality and size being ecaTcely as good as last week. The sale opened easier, but prices - firmed up as the : auction . advanced, and • sales, closed with prices -fully equal to last week's rates. Prime bullocks, £10 15s. to, £11 17s. 6d.; medium do., £9 10s. to £10; light do., £8 ss. to £B. 155.: best cows andheifer, £9 ss. to-£10; medium do., £7 15s.' to £9; light do., £6 to £7/ ss; Fat sheep: 2675 penned, including a- fair proportion of prime ewes and wethers. Prime heavy wethers held their" own' at last week's:QuotatioHß,-DUt medium quality showed a decline of from 6d. to 2s. per head. There was rather a'heavy yarding of ewes, and. prices dropped Is. to Is. 6d. per head. Lambs: There was only a small yarding 0f.349, consisting of ordinary quality,with a few pens of prime sorts. Competition was confined chiefly to export buyers, and prices were a shade ensier.
