A man named William Bennett, fifty years of age, and employed as a carrier, inet with a serious accident yesterday morning, through a cart which was drivjn" colliding with a tramcar in Courten'ay Placo. At tho time of the occurrence Bennett was taking a load of timber to Messrs. Stewart and Co.'s mill, when a car, going to Constable Street, collided with tho cart, damaging it severely. Bennett sustained injuries to Ms chest and ribs, besides the resultant shock. After receiving temporary assistance, ho was removed to the hospital, and it was reported last night that he was progressing as satisfactorily as could be expected . It is reported that the motoriiian in charge of the tram had his view of the cart obscured through another car, and it was then too late to avoid a collision when he observed it. The injured man resides at Daniel Street. Tc-ilay, at the yard next to the Public Trust Office, Messrs. Harcourt and Co. will hold a great sale of iron, doors, windows, pining, etc.,'at 1.30 pjn.
