Activities are "about to be resumed by tlie Now Zealand Club, Hie members of which . last season listened to addresses from any distinguished speakers. . On Tuesday next Mr. Robert Jl'Nah will he the guest of tho club. Mr. MTfab's subject will be "A Now\ Zealand Politician through a British General Election." His Excellency tho Governor has consulted to bo tho club's guest early in September. ' > It was decided by the Government during the autumn of 1909' that the time when approved agriculturists should arrive in the Dominion from the United Kingdom be restricted to the early summer, so that-every facility be given to the farm worker to get accustomed to his new surroundings before farming operations .were discontinued for the season. According to the annual report of the Immigration Department the same principle is again being adopted for 1910-11, and the first vessel to leave the United Kingdom with assisted farmers will do so in order that the passengers may arrive here in the early summer. Mr. Justice Cooper will hold sittings in Banco to-day .and to-morrow.' The case of Pirani v. Pirani, an appeal from the decision of Mr. Hnselden, S.M., which was set down for yesterday, has been postponed until Saturday morning; when it will be taken by Mr.. Justice Cooper and Mr. Justice Chapman. ' The success which has rewarded the efforts of the New Zealand Club in Wellington has led a visitor from / Adelaide, Mr. S. H. Skipped, 8.A., LL.B., to inaugurate a similar'- institution in Adelaide. The lub opened with.a membership of 150 and has for its president his Honour, Sir John Gordan. '. Sir, Launcelot Sterling is vice-president of' the club. • ."■ ,; A Thames Press Association telegram states, that at a conference of ■ local bodies a resolution was unanimously passed urging upon tho Government the necessity of. appointing a commission to make full inquiries into the peculiar conditions and circumstances surrounding tho waste lands of the Haurcki Peninsula, aud to report. on the best' means . of amending the terms.and conditions under which these lands were offered for occupation to intending settlers; also of removing the present existing unfavourable restrictions set out in the regulations. It was'.further resolved to: forward.' a copy of the resolution to the Prime. Minister, tho members for the Thames, Ohinemuri, and Waikato; andalso ,to invite the co-operation and support of other local governing bodies throughout tho Peninsula. ' - The lack- of sufficient accommodation at the Nurses' Home at the Auckland Hospital for ail,the nurses engaged was referred to at Tuesday night's meeting of' the Ilospital Board. The chairman (Mr. P. JI. ■Jlaekay) said that the state of affairs was a crying'disgrace to the city. In June of this year, he said, they had had to place twelve or. fourteen nurses, under canvas, and now they had to put the resident doctors in the Observatory Cottage. P. von Haast on "Deeds of .'Assignment'for Benefit of Creditors." Several questions were asked, and answered by the lecturer, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks,. Hunt occupied the chair. \ Among the third-class passengers who arrived from London by the lonic yesterday were 102 assisted immigrants, 57 women, 12 men, and 33 : children. Of this, number, dl'adults and 27' children were nominated by relatives.in New Zealand, while 28 adults and 6 children were approved by the High Commissioner. •Occupations of the new. arrivals are stated variously as .30 domestics, 8. farmers, 2 farm labourers, and 15 wives, who are coming to tho Dominion to rejoin their husbands. It' was decided, to contribute to tho Mayoress's fund for'a. new Children's Hospital. The annual dinner was fixed for Monday, September 19.
