ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN.ADELAIDE ROAD. v . A serious motor-cycle accident happened to a jouug man named Samuel Smith in Adelaide Rend, at noon yesterday, and he is now lying in tho hospital, in a critical condition.

From the information available it appears that Smith, who resides at Hospital Terrace, borrowed a friend's motor-cycle, and while , proceeding at half speed down Adelaide Road—his iirst ride on a motor-cycle—he endeavoured to steer clear of a dray. In swerving .'to the side of tho road ho lost control of the machine, which collided with a tolegraph post. The rider was thrown from the machine, and on being picked up was found to have sustained severo injuries about tbo head and face. He was removed to the hospital, where it was found that he had sustained' a fracture of the skull, besides which there was evidonco of hemorrhage 'of the brain. In addition tho jaw was also injured ■ severely, and it is feared, broken. On inquiry at tho hospital at a late hour last ovening, it was learned that the unfortunate man is in a critical condition; He is twentytwo years of age, and is a wood-carver by trade. ■.•"■ GORED BY A BULL. . .
