Two -girls just over sixteen years of age were .charged with the theft of a purso and contents,, valuo £6 Gs., 'the property of May Kieiiian, an.omployco at the Telephone Exchange. ' One of the accused pleaded guiltjy but; the other domed tho charge.. It was stated in evidence for the' prosecution that complainant went to the Skating Rink on'tho afternoon of July 25, and left her, purse,, containing. «,■ gold diain, muff and fur.m the lad-' ies'. room. : On'• going for them subsequently she discovered that they., were gone. , The. statements made , to the police by the girls were also put in., His, Worship after-,severely admonishing the. girls convicted, both of them; and ordered them to coino up for sentence when called on.
: 'OTHER POLICE CASE?. ' Charles Enticott, with forty previous convictions against, him for, various offences, was charged with usnif improper language in Tory Street- on Monday evening, and was sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment. Oma farther charge of drunkenness accused was fined £1, with the option of seven days in gaol. ' ~ John Harrison, charged with insobriety, was ordered to pay 17s. 6d. medical expenses incurred, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. A first offender, who did not appear, forfeited his hail of l'Us. Another, who was in an unfit condition to appear, was remanded for curative treatment. ' CIVIL CASES. (Before Mr. W. R. Thomas "Whebbey Twist was ordered to pay £6 18s. to I'rouse Lumber, Ltd., by instalments of 10s. a month, on a judgment summons. Alexander Sainmons was ordered to pay £18 Bs. Cd. to John Joseph M'Grath on or before August 16, in default eighteen days' imprisonment. CLAIM FOR RENT; Justinian J. J. Powell, contractor sued "William J. Gibson, commission agent, for £i 10s., alleging that on April 20 last, without plaintilt's authority, defendant collected and received from Miss D, J. Greig the sum of £4 10s. rent duo by her to tho plaintiff for a house occupied by her, mid owned by the plaintiff Powell, in Macdonald Crescent, , AVellington. Mr. O. R. ISeci-e appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. W. R. Rothenborg for defendant. ' ■ His "Worship gave judgment for plaintiff for the amount claimed, with £1 Is. costs. MOUNT COOK POLICE COURT. At the Mount Cook Polico Court yesterday, before Mr. T. Bland, J.P., Andrew Myers was fined 10s., with an option of 48 hours, for drunkenness'. Stephen Patrick Casey and two first offending' inebriates were convict'ed and discharged, and another first offender was mulcted in a penalty of os., witli the usual option.
