MRS. ORR-LORING'S CONCERT.
The execrable weather of last evening had an effect on the attendance at Mrs. - Orr-Loring's very enjoyable concert given in' ' the Concert' Cham ter. Tho Dunedin' soprano was. in. excellent voice, , and' was perhaps heard to better advantage last evening than ' has been the easo when she has been concerned in concerts "held in the larger hall. She' sang "Caro , Nome" (Verdi) with fine expression, and. when encored, sang very sweetly "Rose Softly Blooming." Later she, sang Batten's pretty ballad "April Morn," and responded with much archness with the evergreen "Comin' thro' the Rye." finally she sang "Lo. Here the Gentle I,ark" (Bishop), with a flute obbligato by Mr, Thompson. Mrs. Orr"Loring was also associated with Mr. Ernest Parkes in a very melodious rendering of the duet "The Moon Hath Raised," from Benedict's opera "The Lily of Killarney," which elicited a hearty encore. Mr. Parkes, who was .in splendid I voice, saluj "Prince Ivan's Song" (Allitsen), and Slater's fine scttjng of "Prom Oberon in Fairyland," for 'which he was deservedly recalled. Mrs. Sutcliffe, who is popular , with AVellington audiences, exhibited her elocutionary powers in the defence of Queen Catherine' (from "Henry VIII"), and in response to persistent applause, gave the quaint "Lizard and the Wall." to which she had to still further append an amusing trifle entitled "The Difference." She also displayed her versatility in."From India" (Bennetl), "Jimmy Brown" (Aldra), and ' "Katie's Answer." Mr. Herbert Bloy's distinguished Violin playing places him easily at the hoad of local exponents of (he instrument'. He played WieniaWski's "Romance," the "Gavotte" of Goesse, "Hejre Kati" (Hubay), and (he popular "Melody for the G String." < Mr. Kenny played the accompaniments.
