MORE TROUBLE ON THE CLYDE By Tolegraph-Pross Association-Copyright, i.ondon, August 7. A further crisis in 'the shipbuilding trade is threatened. Tho Clyde workmen have demanded the restoration of five per cent, in tho piece rates and a shilling weekly in the time rates taken from them in 1008.. A ballot, by an overwhelming majority, rejected the masters' counter-proposals to grant an advance in October next if 70,000 persons, exclusive of apprentices, are being employed. LOCK-OUT . RESOLVED ON. ATTITUDE OF THE MEN. (Eec. August 8, 11.40 p.m.) London, August 8. The ship-building yard where ( the strike has occurred has resolved on' a lock-out of sixty per.centum of the men, being 60,000 hands, in consequence of tho demand of the men for a reduction of from 56 to 53 hours "weekly and an increase in their wages of ten per centum. Tho mon are likely to retaliate by declaring a general strike, and' thus forcing the remaining forty por centum oi tho employees to . cease work. It is expected that the Imperial Yard will support tho employers to tho extent of not taking on new workmen. SIDNEY SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE. Sydney, August 8. The slaughtermen on etriko at Glebo Island gave notice that they did not intend to resume to-day. This does not constitute a strike under tho Act, as tho agreement stipulates for a moment's notice on, either side. A famine is not anticipated. It is stated that there ■ are large supplies of frozen meat available, and that country slaughterhouses will be ablo to supply a certain quantity. IRONWORKERS STOP WOEK. Brisbane, August 8. •Ironmouldcrs at the Bundaberg Foundry have struck for a rise from ten to twelve shillings a day. Adelaide, August 8. Three hundred foundry and workshop employees of Simpson and Company struck over tho dismissal of a moulder who asked for higher wages. 'I THE LATE CANADIAN STRIKE. , (Rec. Aug. 9, 0.35 a.m.) Ottawa, August 8. • Fifty per cent, of the Grand Trunk Railway strikers are working. Tho remainder will bo employed when vacancies occur. \ ■ SPINNING TRADE AGREEMENT. (Eec, Aug. 9, 0.35 a.m.) London, August' 8. The card-room workers at Manchester have approved the proposal that they shall allow their wages td remain unaltered for five years. The employers and others have also agreed to this. It is hoped that tho decision will give tho spinning trade freedom from strikes.
