Evidence was given .to the effect that: Waters was intoxicated whe-n O Connor struck him. severely in the face. Tho magistrate commented verv strongly oh young fellows using their Ests in such cases. He- did not like sending young; men to gaol, but unless , this ..sort oi tmng were stopped he would bo compelled to do so. In addition to , the £ne, the costs amounted to 205., the alternative being fourteen days' imprisonment.
